It is wonderful to see such great learning continuing to happen in each of the classrooms. As I visit the classes, it is clear that the learning opportunities being presented to the children allow for creativity, problem- solving and higher-order thinking skills to be developed.

We were fortunate to have Kylie Howarth, an award-winning, internationally published children’s author-illustrator visit our Kindy, Year 2 and Year 6 students today. Kylie was part of the Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival and is now touring as part of the Young Readers and Writers Festival. She spoke to the children about her books ‘Chip’ and ‘Fish Kid’ and the ‘Lizard Ninja’, as well as her love for underwater exploring. It was wonderful hearing her story and having her read to our students. Kylie will be back again tomorrow to speak to other classes.

I welcome you all back and hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday and a blessed and holy Easter. It is always so uplifting to see the childrens’ happy, smiling faces on that first morning, as they catch up with friends and share many stories about what they got up to during the holidays. They are always so full of energy and enthusiasm after the break and eager to learn and discover more about themselves and their world. Let the learning, discovering, creating, solving and having fun commence!

As we conclude the final week of this term, it gives us a moment to reflect on all we have managed to achieve in such a short period of time. The children have achieved so much already with their learning and progressing with their understanding and skills. As I visit classrooms, I can see the engagement of the students and their willingness to learn – a very special attribute to have!

What a fantastic day we had last Friday at our Faction Athletics Carnival. The sportsmanship, friendly competition and determination demonstrated by the students was something I was very proud of. I would like to offer a HUGE thank you to all the parents, grandparents and family members who came along and helped with the judging, marshalling, scoring, selling of cakes, baking of cakes and just cheering on the students. I think that without the help and support of our parents, days like this couldn’t happen.

sterday was the first of our Athletics Carnival days, with selected students from Years 1 to 6 competing in Ball Throw, Long Jump and Triple Jump. It was great to see these children showing determination, good sportsmanship and great skill as they navigated their way through these events.

With so many events happening in our world today that impact us in different ways, it is important as parents that we have the skills to be able to support our children and their responses. While we would love to protect our children from the negative things that are happening around them, in reality it is impossible, as news coverage is so widespread.

For the last three days, Nicolle Achmad and myself were fortunate to spend some time with Bishop Gerard Holohan in reflecting on how within our school we are expressing our Catholic Identity. Things such as prayer, understanding the Liturgy, having symbols and icons easily seen within the school and developing strong relationships were discussed.
